RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) – Eletrobras has recorded 2,462 employees complying with a voluntary separation plan (PDV) launched on October 31, equivalent to 90% of eligible employees, the company told Reuters on Friday.

The information confirms an article published earlier by Reuters, citing a source in the company.

The Reuters report also said the electric company is looking into a new program in 2023 to reach a workforce it considers ideal for efficiency gains, according to the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

To this topic, Eletrobras only replied through the press service that “there is no forecast for the launch of a new POS before the end of the year”, after consultation.

The first PDV of the privatized Eletrobras covered all the companies in the system (Eletrosul, Chesf, Eletronorte and Furnas) in a plan targeting employees who have retired from the formal social security system or who are about to retire.

The injunctions, however, ban PDV at Furnas’ three bases – in Rio de Janeiro, Angra dos Reis and Sao Paulo – Eletrobras recently said, adding that it is seeking to overturn the decisions regarding the 345 mergers in court. For other companies and other bases, Furnas POS is fully supported.

The shutdowns provided for in the PDV, which are estimated at 1 billion reais, should take place between December this year and April 2023.

The consultant has been working with Eletrobras on workforce “optimization” studies.

“Approximately 2,500 people have already signed up for this first POS and there is room for another one in May 2023,” a source with knowledge of the matter said earlier.

The second POS could target non-retired employees, the source said, and it will be incorporated into a new organizational structure that is being created that will have more automation and technology as one of its pillars.

The Eletrobras group currently has about 10,500 employees and will reduce the workforce to about 8,000 employees with this first PDV with a privatized company.

The second voluntary separation plan can cover up to 20% of the remaining staff.

“It is assumed that the final and ideal number of employees of the company will be between 7,000 and 7,500 employees. Not many people for the size of the company. If the company reaches this target, it will become the most efficient in the industry with the lowest cost per megawatt generated and megawatt transmitted,” the source said.
