RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) – Jean-Paul Prates was elected president of Petrobras at a meeting of the company’s board of directors on Thursday, the United Oil Workers’ Federation (FUP) said in a statement.
The approval was unanimous, according to two sources familiar with the collegiate meeting that took place that morning.
Prates is already scheduled to meet President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at 4:00 pm this Thursday at the Planalto Palace.
Reuters reported this week that, if elected, Prates would already have to submit a list of candidates to the Petrobras board of directors for approval in Brasilia.
Prates resigned as PT-RN senator hours before the collegiate meeting so he could be elected unhindered.
