Gasoline settles in a million, bread follows the move up

Fuel prices recorded two increases yesterday, one published in the morning and the other in the afternoon, according to the scales of the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources and against the backdrop of the collapse of the pound on the market in parallel, which began on Monday. This dual pricing was announced yesterday morning by fuel distributor spokesman Fadi Abu Chakra. All of the listed hydrocarbons have risen in price by several tens of thousands of pounds in a few hours, with the exception of a kiloliter of fuel oil, paid in dollars, which mainly follows fluctuations in world oil prices.

The last displayed prices and their double increase are as follows:

• 20 liters of 95 octane gasoline: 1,087,000 pounds (+82,000 LL)

• 20 liters of petrol with an octane rating of 98: 1,114,000 LL (+84,000 LL)

• 20 liters of diesel fuel (for vehicles): 1,139,000 LL (+84,000 LL)

• Household gas cylinder: 695,000 LL (+52,000 LL)

• Kiloliter of fuel oil (for private power generators): US$888.29 (unchanged).

Yesterday rose not only fuel prices. According to the decision of the Ministry of Economy and Trade, the prices of Arab bread bags also rose for the second time this week. So a small pack of 341 grams will sell for £14,000 today versus £13,000 on Tuesday for 346 grams. An average pack of 838 grams will cost £24,000, up from £22,000 previously for the same weight. Finally, the large pack, which will now weigh 1,052 grams, will be priced at LL 29,000, up from £26,000 for 1,040 grams previously. The ministry said in a statement that it is now necessary to obtain prior permission from the General Directorate of Seeds and Sugar Beets to import wheat “to protect the national industrial sector and its workers.” For months, the ministry has justified these price hikes by citing various factors, including rising fuel prices since the removal of gas subsidies last year, the parallel market dollar that continues to rise, or global prices again. wheat that has grown since the beginning of the war in Ukraine at the end of February 2022.
