NThis year, natural disasters caused slightly less damage. However, as Swiss reinsurer Swiss Re has calculated, the amount now exceeds $100 billion and remains above the long-term average.
Economic damage this year was estimated at $269 billion, down 9 percent from 2022’s $295 billion. Natural disasters caused €260 billion in damage, also 9 percent less than in 2022. However, damage caused by natural disasters remains well above the 10-year average of $223 billion.
