WWhen the tech industry’s biggest startups succeed, their biggest backers are happy, too. Major venture capital firms have made their fortunes through early-stage participation in startups such as Google and Facebook. However, opportunities for private investors to benefit from success stories are limited. One option is shares of venture capital companies, but the largest and most successful of them are privately owned. Investing directly in startups is very risky due to lack of diversification. The third option is offered by funds of funds, which, in turn, invest in funds of venture capitalists. Former Formula 1 world champion Nico Rosberg has now brought such a fund to the market.
At FAS, Rosberg talks about the details for the first time: he is investing his fund in a group of the most famous venture funds. It is aiming for a fund size of 75 million euros by the end of the year, which is a reasonable amount in the fund world. It has raised €30 million so far and recently completed its first round of funding.
