Southern Palatinate: Children help police solve traffic accidents

MWith the help of two children, police in the southern Palatinate caught a man who fled the scene. The 39-year-old mother of the children parked at a supermarket in Kandela on Saturday and briefly allowed her eight- and 10-year-old siblings to play alone in the car, police said on Sunday.

The children watched as the man pushed open the driver’s door of their car and drove off. They wrote down his license plate number on a handkerchief.

The mother then called police, who said they also received a “detailed description of the driver” from the boy and girl. Police found the 64-year-old suspect at home and filed charges against him for fleeing the scene. The damage to both cars amounted to about 500 euros.
