DFormer U.S. Vice President Mike Pence has publicly announced his 2024 Republican presidential nomination. “Today I announce before God and my family that I am running for President of the United States,” he said in a video posted to Twitter on Wednesday. The 64-year-old politician has already filed the necessary paperwork with the Federal Election Commission on Monday.
With his proposal, Pence is also challenging former President Donald Trump, who wants to run again after his defeat in 2020. Pence was his deputy from 2017 to 2021. The two have a difficult relationship.
Presidential elections are scheduled for November 5, 2024. Intra-party primaries decide who ultimately becomes the official candidate.
With his announcement, Pence is also expanding the circle of Republican contenders. The most famous of them, along with Trump, are Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley. Probably others will follow.
