ESome expressions of solidarity with Hamas also went too far for many in Malaysia. In late October, videos and photographs of students and teachers dressed as Hamas terrorists for school, complete with toy guns, green headbands and Palestinian flags, were posted on social media.
The images emerged just as the Southeast Asian country’s education ministry declared “Palestinian Solidarity Week.” The minister condemned any extremism and said he wanted to instill “humanitarian values” in students. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the government would monitor the program “to ensure it does not become a problem.”
