ATP final in Turin: Zverev has no chance of reaching the semi-finals

TEnnis pro Alexander Zverev no longer has a chance of reaching the semi-finals of the ATP Finals. Because Wimbledon winner Carlos Alcaraz of Spain won 6-4, 6-4 in Turin against Russia’s Daniil Mevedev, already through to the semi-finals, Zverev’s final group game took place on Friday evening (8.30pm on Sky) against the Russian. Andrey Rublev doesn’t matter.

Instead, Alcaraz secured a place in the semi-finals. From the other group, Italian Jannik Sinner and Serbian, world number one Novak Djokovic, advanced to the semi-finals, which will take place this Saturday.

“Only my fault”

Zverev was already struggling with his situation before the final group stage games. “I’m in a bad situation right now. “You never want this, you always want to have everything in your own hands,” Zverev said, referring to dependence on Medvedev.

However, Zverev did not want to blame the Russian for the initial situation and relegation. “If I fail, I can’t blame anyone. Then it was only my fault,” Zverev already said after his defeat to Medvedev on Wednesday, in which he missed several good chances, especially in the first set.

Zverev will now go on holiday after the game with Rublev. After Monday’s charity event, the Maldives Olympian is looking to recharge his batteries ahead of the new season, which starts for him around the end of the year at the United Cup in Australia. Zverev will compete there alongside Angelique Kerber, who is keen to return from maternity leave in Sydney.
