AWhen Manfred Schwabl, captain of the 1st FC Nürnberg, came out of the locker room, he saw that almost always the same player from his football team was already on the field, setting up a circle for him with small cones. Back in the 1993-94 season, the player who set the cones had to leave again when Schwabl and people at his level of the hierarchy gathered in the so-called A circle and warmed up. And even if the player had to leave again and again, he continued to set up his cone drill after practice—until he was finally allowed to stay for the warm-up game.
“Practicality and ambition,” says Schwabl, recalling the season and the player, “that’s what Christian Vück stood for and stands for.”
