LIV pros at Masters: Here’s why ‘Saudi golfers’ are still unwelcome

bAt the Masters everything remains the same. This makes it increasingly difficult for LIV professionals to qualify for the first golf tournament of the year. Augusta National Golf Club Chairman Fred Ridley announced at his annual press conference that there will be no new qualifying criteria for his exclusive club’s 2025 invitational tournament.

For pros who aren’t automatically invited because of a green jacket at Augusta or success at one of the other three majors in the last five years, the same doors remain open: a tournament win on the PGA Tour, a top-30 finish. annual FedEx Cup rankings or in the top 50 in the world rankings as of the end of the previous year and two weeks before the start of the Masters. This year, such strict conditions meant that among the 89 participants (including five amateurs) there were only 13 professionals who were banned from the PGA Tour as defectors.
