Layoffs, or layoffs as the term is currently fashionable, were marked last year for tech companies and seem to want to raise their flag this year as well. Twitter and Meta (owner of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp) opened the season in the last quarter of 2022.

This year they entered the wave of Alphabet (owner of Google and YouTube), Amazon and Microsoft. Now it’s Spotify’s turn, which announced the dismissal of 6% of the total number of employees of the company – 588 out of 9800 employees will be fired.

Since factions of this magnitude take months to shut down, the numbers could change — in the case of Twitter, for example, leaked documents suggest layoffs could be as high as 75% of its 7,500 employees. According to experts, the cuts are an early reaction to the economic moment and a possible recession.
