WWhen many affected companies’ IT systems go down these days, they do go down – and it usually costs the companies a lot of money. Because computer hackers and cybercriminals are no longer satisfied with pennies, a few thousand euros or a few million data records. They want to make big profits from their raids on the digital systems of their victims. If they succeed, according to a recent study by US IT group Cisco, it will be expensive – very expensive.
For more than half of all German companies whose computer systems were attacked and hacked by hackers in the past few months, the damage amounted to at least a quarter of a million euros. Damage amounts of less than €100,000, which were common during the coronavirus crisis, are now rare, according to the study. In response to recent events, many company boards and management are now increasing cybersecurity budgets, hiring skilled workers, and enhancing security postures.
